Cardinals visit the Panthers in the NFC

Friday, January 9th, 2009 at 11:19 am

I guess it’s quite clear now that the Cardinals like the underdog role.

Some people claim that the Arizona Cardinals are the biggest underdogs in the 2009 NFL playoffs. With a disappointing 0-5 mark in the Eastern time zone including blowouts at Philadelphia and New England, yes, I guess nobody expected the Cardinals to come this far.

The Arizona Cardinals lost four of their last six regular season games in what has been a downward spiral that probably led to Arizona quarterback Kurt Warner losing out on the chance of winning this year’s MVP trophy. For them to still be right in the middle of things in the postseason was a work of magic on their part.

Kurt WarnerBefore facing the Carolina Panthers in round two, the Cardinals had to beat the visiting Atlanta Falcons and cool off one of the hottest teams in the league this year. And even though the Cards’ were playing at home, they were still deemed as two-point underdogs to the visitors.

Was that disrespect? Do people refuse to give this Arizona Cardinals team enough credit? As far as the Cards’ are concerned, they could care less. Adopting the ‘’we didn’t get any respect’’ tag with a special zeal, Arizona covered the spread easily and won the game 30-24.

The Cardinals, just like last week, will once again be the underdogs, this time 10-point underdogs, to the Panthers in the NFC divisional playoffs. And if the Cardinals love being the underdog, knowing the fact that people are expecting them to lose to Carolina by ten should be more than enough to motivate them for this weekend’s big face-off.

Of course, it’ll be awfully harder for Arizona to pull off another playoff win, especially with their premier receiver Anquan Boldin questionable for…

Deja Vu for the Ravens in Tennessee?

Friday, January 9th, 2009 at 10:07 am

The Ravens certainly hope so.

In case you’ve been living under a rock lately, the 2009 NFL playoffs are underway with the final eight teams from the two conferences in the NFL finally complete. Arizona, San Diego, Philly and Baltimore all won their respective wild card playoff games to advance to the divisional round and face Carolina, Pittsburgh, the Giants and Tennessee respectively and as far as Tennessee is concerned, their AFC rivals this weekend are hoping it’ll be 2001 all over again.

The Baltimore Ravens will be facing the no.1 seed Tennessee Titans in the AFC divisional playoffs in a contest the Ravens are hoping to be eerily similar to their 2001 affair. You see, the last time the Ravens won the Super Bowl, it was back in 2001 when they got a ticket to the postseason through a wild card entry.

Baltimore RavensWho faced Baltimore in the divisional round? Yes, it was the Tennessee Titans, also seeded at no.1 then, hosting the Ravens in what was then known as the Adelphia Coliseum.

The Baltimore Ravens won that divisional playoff game, 24-10, coming up with an upset win over the top seeded Titans on their way to win the Super Bowl in… GET THIS… Tampa, Florida. And since this year’s Super Bowl will be in Tampa again, we are looking at the possible sequel of Baltimore’s Super Bowl title run.

Creepy huh?

Is this a precursor to the Ravens celebrating the Super Bowl XLIII win in Tampa, Florida? Is all this deja vu? You can bet your ass the Ravens think so. Hell, they could be praying for just that exactly.

‘’I think so,’’ Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan said. ‘’We’ll see. That’s the beauty of next week. We get to play the game. And we’re looking forward to it.’’

The Tennessee Titans managed to come up with the league-best record of 13-3 to earn them the top seed in the AFC. As of this writing, they are established as three-point favorites by oddsmakers but since history literally favors the Ravens on Saturday…

Florida V Oklahoma, it’s personal now!

Thursday, January 8th, 2009 at 10:53 am

Yes, it’s personal now, since the Sooners have probably motivated Florida’s Tim Tebow to have the game of his life.

The Sooners need all the help they can get coming to the 2009 BCS national championship game. This is the biggest college football game of the season and the Sooners certainly don’t want to end up losing out on the opportunity to bag the big one.

However, the Oklahoma Sooners calling Florida quarterback Tim Tebow the ‘’fourth-best quarterback in the Big 12′’ was a HUGE mistake. I mean, Tebow has strong legs to go with his rocket of an arm, meaning, he can beat you as bad on the ground game as well as in the air, like he usually does, and pissing him off was a bad judgment call on Oklahoma’s part.

2009 BCS National Championship GameSo who made that mistake for the Oklahoma Sooners? Dominique Franks. Franks started stirring things up for the BCS title game over the weekend when he had the audacity to call Tebow a distant no.4 among quarterbacks in the Big 12.

Dominique Franks said Tebow ranks behind their Oklahoma Sooners quarterback AND 2008 Heisman trophy winner Sam Bradford, (figures…) Texas Longhorns quarterback Colt McCoy and Texas Tech Red Raiders quarterback Graham Harrell.

‘’I think our quarterbacks are better,’’ Dominique Franks said. ‘’Just the way they conduct themselves and how they play on the field. I just think, playing against those guys, it’s a lot harder to prepare for those guys than it is for Tebow.’’

Of course, Franks’ comments WILL create quite an uproar in Florida since Tim Tebow was a runner-up for the 2008 Heisman trophy. Hell, Tebow was THE favorite to win the Heisman this season until Sam Bradford was awarded with the hardware.

And as expected, the rest of the Florida Gators were not fond of the…

NCAA College Football Betting pick 2009 GMAC Bowl the Ball State Cardinals versus the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009 at 5:20 pm

Tulsa Golden Hurricanes NCAA FootballThe Ball State Cardinals were previously famous only for being the alma mater of David Letterman and nothing more. This season it drew considerable attention to itself as their football team the Ball State Cardinals drew viewers attention as they progressed to a 12-0 NCAA Football season. The undefeated dream ended in the MAC title game after a stunning 42-24 loss at the hands of the Buffalo Bulls. Still, the loss does not diminish the season that the Ball State Cardinals have and nothing can take away the NCAA Football season that quarterback Nate Davis has had. The Ball State Cardinals quarterback threw for 3,442 yards and received some Heisman Trophy votes. The Ball State Cardinals are yet to bounce back from a loss this NCAA Football season but checking history, over the past few seasons, The Ball State Cardinals are 10-2 against any given spread. Tulsa Golden Hurricanes had a tremendously tricky time this year recuperating after a loss that ended the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes’ dream of a perfect season after an 8-0 start. After losing to the Arkansas Razorbacks as seven-point favourites, the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes are currently contemplating over that setback. The Ball State Cardinals are 0-6 in bowl games, if that is what the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes need to know. The Ball State Cardinals lost 52-30 to Rutgers Scarlet Knights in last season’s 2008 International Bowl despite getting three TD passes from Nate Davis.

A lot will be made out of the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes offense and…

Another GMAC Bowl win for Tulsa?

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009 at 4:48 pm

A second straight GMAC Bowl is what Tulsa will be gunning for at the Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

The 2009 GMAC Bowl will mark the second straight year the Tulsa Golden Hurricane will play in this BCS bowl game. Last season, Tulsa handily beat Bowling Green, 63-7, to win that year’s GMAC Bowl.

It was the largest margin of victory in BCS bowl history, as the Tulsa Golden Hurricane erased the record set by the Alabama Crimson Tide back in 1953 when they dominated Syracuse, 61-6, to win the Orange Bowl.

2009 GMAC BowlTulsa is going back to the GMAC Bowl and will face a team that won its first 12 games this season, the Ball State Cardinals. Although Ball State ended the regular season with a disappointing 42-24 loss to Buffalo, the Cardinals still got the invite for the GMAC bowl.

The question now is, are they mentally prepared for the Golden Hurricanes, a team going for their second straight GMAC bowl win.

Ball State started this season 12-0 before losing 42-24 against Buffalo in the Mid-American Conference championship game. Ball State was ranked No.12 in the Associated Press top 25 poll. But after losing to the Bulls, the Cardinals dropped to No.23 in the rankings.Ironically, Tulsa also lost its last game in a conference championship game. East Carolina beat the Golden Hurricane 27-24 at Chapman Stadium to win the Conference USA title.

So with both teams losing their last respective contests, we’ll probably have a GMAC bowl game with both teams looking for redemption aside from trying to win a piece of…
