The Seattle SuperSonics is a National Basketball Association team based in Seattle , Washington . The Sonics are one of seven teams in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association. The franchise plays in Key Arena in Seattle , Washington and wears jerseys of green, gold orange, and white. The Sonics were Seattle 's first professional sports franchise. The Team began play in October, 1967; the franchise did not make a playoff appearance until 1975. The franchise has since won one NBA Championship, three Conference Titles and six Division Titles. The franchise entered the league in the late 1960s and experienced success in the 1970s and 1990s. The Sonics went to the NBA Finals in 1978 and then won the 1979 NBA championship with a club that featured forward Jack Sikma and guards Dennis Johnson, Gus Williams and Fred Brown. Seattle put together a number of winning seasons in the early and mid-1990s, advancing to the NBA Finals in 1996 with a team led by forward Shawn Kemp and guard Garry Payton. The Sonics had a strong team a roster that comprised of Shawn Kemp, Garry Payton, Detlef Schempf, Sam Perkins, Nate McMillan, and other, the team reached the NBA Finals, but lost to Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls.

In the season 2004-2005 the Sonics would win their first 15 games on their way to leading the newly established Northwest Division. Leading the way wSeattle Supersonics as Free Agent Ray Allen who averaged 23.9 points, for the Seattle SuperSonics who posted a solid 52-30 record. The Sonics would stumble winning just three of their final games. However, once the postseason started the Supersonics were able to find their stride again winning the series relatively easily against the Sacramento Kings. In the second round the Sonics faced a much tougher test in the San Antonio Spurs. After losing the first 2 games on the road the Sonics survived a last second miss from Tim Duncan to hold on to a 92-92 win to keep their title hopes alive. They went to win Game 4 at home 101-89 to even the series. The Sonics lost Game 5 on the road the road. The spurs, led by Tim Duncan ended the series in Game 6 with a 98-96 win for the Spurs. Seattle SuperSonics may have to relocate due to current stadium conditions and financing, which including either renovating the Key Arena or building a new arena.
